Plan for the unexpected!
Some things in life we can plan for - like birthdays and weddings ….but life isn’t always that predictable.
A few minutes thinking about it now could make a big difference to the outcome of an emergency faced by you and your family, organisation or community. Don’t wait for the unexpected to happen – plan now!

This project forms part of the Lottery funded Rebuilding Together programme, a £1 million package to help Cumbrian communities become more resilient. This comes in the wake of the December 2015 floods, and will help local people, communities and organisations to prepare for similar events in the future.
The ‘Rebuilding Together’ programme which runs for 3 years is led by Cumbria CVS and delivered in partnership with Cumbria Action for Sustainability (CAfS) and Action with Communities in Cumbria (ACT) – three local charities with a long history of working together to support Cumbrian communities and organisations. The programme started in October 2016.

Planning for major emergencies
Emergencies are happening somewhere almost every minute of every day. Most are dealt with by the police, fire, and ambulance services as part of their day-to-day work.
Sometimes an incident is more serious and needs to involve other agencies - such as other local councils, the Environment Agency, the Maritime and Coastguard Agency, and public health for example.
All of these agencies work together, continuously, to plan how they will react and manage any major emergency.
There are plans in place to protect people, communities and the environment in a range of situations such as:
In the first stages of an emergency, the priority will be to protect life and property wherever we can. Communities are then helped to recover as quickly as possible.
Sometimes a major emergency will only affect one area of the community, at other times it could affect a wider region. Whatever the extent, agencies will work closely with the media to get information out to you quickly so that you can assess how, or if, it will affect you and your family.
